In just a few short years Microsoft Teams has become the de facto tool for business communications. Amid fierce competition from the likes of Zoom, Skype and Google Meet, it was the Microsoft program that won out – and it’s now used by businesses right across the world, from tiny start-ups to huge multinational organisations. It’s even said to be in use at 91 of the Fortune 100 companies.

So why is it that Teams has seen such enormous success?

Effective communication

For all the myriad features and functions, Teams is primarily a collaboration tool. So, effective communication was something that Microsoft simply could not afford to get wrong. Surely enough, the company put great effort (not to mention huge investment) into ensuring Teams allowed its users to work collaboratively wherever in the world they are.

Now, with everything from one-to-one chats right through to sprawling Teams channels, the technology is great at what it sets out to achieve first and foremost: fostering best-in-class communication for all business needs.

Productivity boost

It’s not just about communicating, of course, but keeping productivity high. It’s for this purpose that Teams has Channels, collating projects, teams and working groups in one location. This ensures all a project’s files, charts and conversations can be accessed quickly and easily – to not only save time but ensure everyone is suitably briefed and has all the requisite information close at hand.

Anywhere, any time

Being a cloud-based platform, Teams can be used anywhere, on any device – and without losing any functionality in the process. Users can log into their Teams account across desktop and mobile; it works on all the main operating systems, being available not just on Windows and Android but iOS and Mac, too.

Integration

With Teams’ success you’d understand if Microsoft pulled up the ladder when it came to third party integrations. However, this isn’t the company’s way, and Teams now integrates with a large (and growing) suite of non-Microsoft apps. By linking with RingCentral and Zoom, for instance, a Teams user can customise their workspace and ensure everything they need is available to them.

With all this considered it’s little surprise, really, that MS Teams has become the go-to communications channel – and with no sign of slowing down any time soon.
